With the ID. ERA 8X opening for reservations, the ID. ERA family has officially formed a "dual flagship" lineup: the ID. ERA 9X targets full-family travel for large households, fitting five or six people in one car; the ID. ERA 8X targets small families, easy to drive and park daily, capable of mountain runs and camping, and with external discharge plugged in, it becomes a mobile home.

At the launch event, renowned actor and official driver of the SAIC Volkswagen 333 Racing Team, Li Zhiting, officially became the brand ambassador for the ID. ERA 8X. The mystery behind the previously hotly discussed "Xinjiang two-car drift" teaser video on social media was also revealed — the person drifting the ID. ERA 8X in the clip was none other than Li Zhiting. His racing DNA and the ID. ERA 8X's driving prowess complement each other perfectly, and he extended an invitation to users for National Day test drives.

Xingyun Intelligent Driving: Intelligent assisted driving enters the global top tier, Momenta R7 world model available at launch
In terms of intelligent assisted driving, the ID. ERA 8X is equipped with a 192-line LiDAR, millimeter-wave radar, high-precision cameras, and a total of 26 perception hardware units throughout the vehicle. It comes with the Momenta R7 world model at launch, with intelligent assisted driving capabilities entering the global top tier. The R7 world model achieves an upgrade from "can see" to "can foresee" — better understanding of attributes, causality, and interaction, understanding the road and understanding you. With software-hardware coordination, the R7 world model can handle 29 driving scenarios including borrowing a parking space to pass oncoming vehicles, three-point turns, avoidance and detouring, and navigating roundabouts.

Among these, the ID. ERA 8X debuts the D2D (door-to-door) navigation feature, achieving seamless connection between driving and parking from the departure parking spot to the destination parking spot, and can continuously complete tasks when passing through gates. When passing oncoming vehicles on narrow roads, it borrows space to avoid; when facing stationary vehicles, avoidance safety is improved by nearly 10 times; in key scenarios such as in-lane avoidance and merging, safety indicators improve by at least 3-5 times; through understanding the dynamics of surrounding vehicles, it more reasonably grasps lane-change timing, with lane-change efficiency improved by nearly 15 times. Starting September 28, existing ID. ERA 9X users will also receive the R7 world model through OTA upgrade.
Xingyun Intelligent Driving: Golden range extender + Xingyun intelligent chassis empowerment, confident handling across all scenarios
A large five-seat SUV must not only let family members sit comfortably, but also let the driver enjoy the drive. The ID. ERA 8X is equipped with the Xingyun intelligent chassis, tuned with a century of German engineering, building all-scenario superior driving control through "resilience, stability, and integrity." The new vehicle adopts front double-wishbone and rear five-link independent suspension; Max and above versions are further equipped with an intelligent magic carpet that can preview road conditions 15 meters ahead and a 150mm-travel dual-chamber air suspension. In the Xinjiang summer test, the body recovered stability in just 1.202 seconds after passing a wave road at 80km/h; on sand, the vehicle completed a double lane change at 90.42km/h and passed a semicircular curve at 81.1km/h, and maintained controlled body posture in the industry's first CCTV elevated-curve ice-surface dual-wheel blowout test.

In terms of power, the Volkswagen self-developed EA211 golden range extender has undergone 15 years of technological accumulation and three generations of product upgrades, with global installations exceeding 25 million units. This range extender achieves a maximum thermal efficiency of 43% and adopts VTG variable-geometry turbocharging, 350bar high-pressure direct injection, and other technologies. The ID. ERA 8X accelerates from 0 to 100km/h in as fast as 4.6 seconds, with measured fuel consumption of 5.85L/100km under depleted battery conditions, and can be filled with 92-octane gasoline; all variants come standard with 800V high-voltage fast charging, completing 10% to 80% fast charging in just 16 minutes, and supporting 3.5kW external discharge — capable of boiling water, brewing tea, and connecting appliances during countryside camping.
Yunqi Smart Cockpit: A German-refined smart home, putting the whole family's comfort first
In terms of the cabin, the ID. ERA 8X adopts a large five-seat layout, with a 5,020mm vehicle length and 2,970mm wheelbase, balancing luxurious passenger space with efficient storage capacity. The new vehicle is equipped with electric open-close doors all around, with the rear doors opening up to 80 degrees; the interior features a 270-degree wrap-around cockpit, with all variants standard-equipped with mother-and-baby-grade full-grain Nappa leather, selected according to a 15-year usage standard; front/rear seats are equipped with heating, ventilation, and massage, the rear right side features an electric leg rest, and the rear seat backrest can recline up to 133 degrees, so every passenger can find their own comfortable posture on long journeys.

The industry-first Smart Surface door-panel magic screen is placed in the rear, allowing passengers to adjust seats and temperature themselves with a reach of the hand, no longer needing to frequently "call" the driver, and when exiting, it can also monitor approaching vehicles from the side and rear to prevent "dooring" accidents. The 12L dual-door smart temperature-controlled refrigerator can be easily opened from both front and rear rows, holds 8 bottles of 550ml drinking water, and keeps cold drinks in summer and hot drinks in winter available on the go.

Golden Standard: Facing "AI summer test" doubts, over 1.5 million kilometers of real-vehicle road testing
In July of this year, the ID. ERA 8X completed summer testing in Xinjiang. After the test video was released, it faced doubts about whether it was "AI-generated." At the launch event, SAIC Volkswagen responded directly: the relevant tests are all supported by China Automotive Technology & Research Center inspection videos and third-party KOL on-site footage, with no AI, no special effects, and no post-production. SAIC Volkswagen has been building cars for 42 years, and has been testing them for real for 42 years. As of before launch, the ID. ERA 8X had cumulatively completed over 1 million kilometers of road testing, plus 500,000 kilometers of off-site durability testing, covering high temperatures and extreme cold winter testing, and conducting full real-vehicle testing in accordance with Volkswagen's stringent global verification standards.

In terms of safety, the ID. ERA 8X is equipped with seven layers of thermal runaway protection across all variants, with the battery bottom capable of withstanding 2,000J impacts; and all variants come standard with 9 airbags, providing comprehensive protection from battery to occupants.
At the launch event, SAIC Volkswagen used three technology labels to define the ID. ERA 8X: Xingyun Intelligent Driving, representing all-scenario superior driving control — the chassis drives stably, and intelligent assisted driving sees far; Golden Standard, representing the hard confidence of German quality — reliability verified through 42 years of real-vehicle road testing; Yunqi Smart Cockpit, representing the whole family's comfort experience — every detail crafted for family. Together, the three labels are the ID. ERA 8X — confident to drive, smart enough to use, comfortable enough to ride in.

On October 12, the ID. ERA 8X will officially launch and announce its final pricing. This National Day, ID. ERA 8X display vehicles and test-drive vehicles have been arriving at dealerships. Users are welcome to visit stores and experience the strength of "born to not pick roads."
