On April 16, 2026, Leapmotor dropped a nuclear bomb in Jinhua, Zhejiang.

The first model on the flagship D platform, the Leapmotor D19, was officially launched, with a benefit price of 219,800 to 269,800 yuan. There are 7 configurations in total, with dual powertrain options of extended-range and pure electric, and a choice of six or seven seats.

Wait a minute, a 5252mm body length, a 3110mm wheelbase, a full-size SUV, with a starting price of 219,800 yuan? What kind of concept is that?

A full-size SUV that is half a class above the BMW X5 and Mercedes-Benz GLE, with a starting price less than one-third that of luxury models in the same class.

This time, Leapmotor has raised a "butcher's knife" against the large SUV market.

Longer than the Li L9, with a wheelbase matching the AITO M9

First, look at the on-paper data.

The Leapmotor D19 measures 5252/1995/1780mm in length, width, and height, with a wheelbase of 3110mm. The Li L9 has a body length of 5218mm and a wheelbase of 3105mm, while the AITO M9 has a body length of 5230mm and a wheelbase of 3110mm. The D19 is the longest of the three, and its wheelbase is exactly on par with the AITO M9.

To make the comparison even more direct: the D19 is a full 172mm longer than the Li L8 and AITO M7. The extra length is not just bloated size. With an 88% cabin utilization rate, an adult 1.75 meters tall still has knee room in the third row and does not need to "climb" in. The second-row independent aviation seats support 260mm rail adjustment, while the third row offers 131° stepless electric adjustment plus seat heating, directly uprooting the pain point of the traditional three-row SUV's "third-row bench."

The trunk has a regular volume of 337L. Folding the third row allows it to fit a stroller plus camping gear, and the 176L front trunk can still hold two 20-inch suitcases. Simply put, the D19's size is the kind of solid goods that "looks good on paper and looks even better in use."

On the core proposition of "home," the Li L8 does well, but the D19 provides a more spacious physical foundation.

500km of pure electric range in the extended-range version, this is the real killer

The D19's trump card is not its size, but its powertrain.

The extended-range version is equipped with an 80.3kWh CATL ultra-hybrid battery cell, with a CLTC pure electric range of 500 kilometers. Note, this is an extended-range model, not a pure electric one.

For comparison: the Li L8 has a pure electric range of about 280 kilometers, and the long-range version of the AITO M7 has 327 kilometers. The D19 directly adds nearly 200 kilometers.

What does that mean? For daily commuting, charging once a week is enough. Normally, it can be driven completely as a pure electric vehicle, and for long trips on weekends, you can just refuel. It is a true "electricity for the city, fuel for long trips" solution. Paired with a 40L fuel tank, the combined range exceeds 1,300 kilometers. For 219,800 yuan, what you get is a full-size SUV that "can run on fuel alone or electricity alone," with no range anxiety and no charging anxiety.

As for the pure electric version, it is equipped with a 115kWh CATL battery, with a maximum CLTC range of 720 kilometers, and features a full-stack 1000V three-electric system, allowing more than 350 kilometers of range to be replenished in 15 minutes. It is worth mentioning that this 1000V system has only a 10% discharge attenuation at -7°C and can maintain peak power even at low battery levels, which will greatly reduce winter range anxiety for northern users.

The top-trim tri-motor performance version has a peak power of 540 kilowatts and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.94 seconds. A full-size SUV running into the 3-second club is something that would have been unimaginable three years ago.

At the chassis level, the D19 comes standard across the range with front double wishbone + rear five-link independent suspension and CDC continuously variable damping shock absorbers. Except for the entry-level version, all are equipped with dual-chamber closed air suspension, supporting up to 40mm raise and 55mm lower travel adjustment, paired with an active magic carpet preview function that can adjust the suspension state in real time to adapt to road conditions. The body torsional rigidity reaches 50500N·m/deg—this figure has already touched the chassis threshold of million-yuan luxury cars.

1280TOPS of computing power, OTA will not be bottlenecked in the coming years

In terms of intelligence, the Leapmotor D19 also went all in.

It debuts globally with dual Qualcomm Snapdragon 8797 chips, with total computing power of 1280TOPS. The AnTuTu benchmark score reaches 2,036,050 points, making it one of the few mass-produced models in the industry to break 2 million points. The dual-chip cockpit-driving integrated central domain control, combined with 28 high-precision perception hardware components (including lidar), and the VLA assisted driving system supports full-scenario navigated assistance from parking space to parking space.

Inside the cabin, it achieves five-screen interaction with a 10.25-inch instrument cluster + 17.3-inch central control screen + 60-inch AR-HUD + 21.4-inch rear roof-mounted screen + 6-inch rear control screen, maxing out the interactive experience throughout the cabin. At the same time, the new car is also equipped with million-pixel DLP projection headlights, a 1958mm-wide ISD smart interactive light curtain, and the world's first automotive-grade forest oxygen cabin, supporting an oxygen generation flow of 8L/min, with both diffuse and nasal cannula modes, a godsend for high-altitude travel.

Some may ask: is 1280TOPS a bit "overkill"? But looking at it from another angle—for 219,800 yuan, what you get is a hardware reserve that will not bottleneck OTA in the coming years. For automakers, competition in intelligence is no longer about "being sufficient for now," but about "pre-embedding redundancy and continuously evolving." Leapmotor D19's approach is: get it done in one step, leave no regrets.

100,000 yuan cheaper than the Li L8, with even higher configuration

This is the sharpest sword of the Leapmotor D19.

The starting prices of the Li L8 and AITO M7 have already crossed the 300,000-yuan threshold, while the D19's starting price drops directly to within 220,000 yuan. More importantly, when you think low prices must come with cut corners, it offers dual-chamber air suspension + CDC, lidar, and the top-tier 1280TOPS computing power chip across the entire range. By contrast, for its rivals, these are often exclusive to high trims or even the top trim.

Take the chassis as an example. The vibration filtering quality and body posture control brought by dual-chamber air suspension are difficult for single-chamber air suspension or ordinary suspension to match. The D19's strategy is clear and aggressive: use the equipment of rivals' mid-to-high trims to attack their entry-level prices.

The D19 deeply understands the pain points of Chinese family users: they want it big, they want it economical, and they also want it fast. It does not comprehensively surpass competitors in every dimension, but instead launches a precise and fierce offensive on the three core pain points users are most sensitive to: price, size, and basic configuration. Through "dislocated competition," it redefines the value benchmark for 300,000-yuan-class SUVs.

At the safety level, the D19 adopts a high-strength cage body, with 2000MPa hot-formed steel used in 16 key areas, and the proportion of high-strength steel and aluminum alloy reaching 83%, with torsional rigidity of 50500N·m/deg. The entire range comes standard with 9 airbags, among which the 2.8-meter-long through-type air curtain extends from the A-pillar to the D-pillar and can reduce the risk of traumatic brain injury by about 70%.

Summary: This is not a "value-for-money" car, this is a "market-reconstructing" car

The emergence of the Leapmotor D19 is not about "competing on features" in the 300,000-yuan-class SUV market, but about redefining what "flagship standard" means.

With its five cards—a 5.25-meter full-size body, 500km extended-range pure electric range, 1280TOPS computing power, dual-chamber air suspension, and lidar—it has broken through the price moat of traditional luxury brands and also left the new forces' "optional extras assassins" with nowhere to hide.

Leapmotor founder, chairman, and CEO Zhu Jiangming said in a media group interview: Leapmotor hopes to pass the saved costs on to customers. Applied to the D19, this statement means a starting price of 219,800 yuan, a full-size flagship SUV, fully loaded configuration, and no tricks.

"No benchmarking, no stepping on others, just look at the D19 at only 219,800 yuan. No need to say more, Leapmotor's pricing is justice."
