In recent years, the high-end MPV market may seem unremarkable, but in reality competition has become increasingly fierce, like a red ocean. Against this backdrop, GAC Trumpchi has launched a mid-to-large MPV, the Trumpchi Xiangwang M8, which was jointly developed with Huawei and is priced between 359,900 and 409,900 yuan.

The new car has been carefully refined in terms of intelligent configuration and powertrain, and the brand has even made bold claims that it will take on the current best-selling plug-in hybrid mid-to-large MPV, the Denza D9.

In terms of exterior, the front face of the Trumpchi Xiangwang M8 features a large "Yipin Qilin" grille, which pairs with the headlight clusters on both sides shaped like the character "7," creating an overall highly imposing visual effect. As for body colors, in addition to single-color body options such as Elegant Black, Blade Shadow White, and Starry River Blue, a two-tone body option is also available. The Denza D9's exterior design, by contrast, feels more fashionable and grand. Its front face is equipped with a large matrix intake grille, paired with a through-type LED light set and smooth front-end lines, not only full of sporty flair but also achieving a delicate balance between fashion and dominance.

In terms of dimensions, the Trumpchi Xiangwang M8 measures 5217/1893/1823mm in length, width, and height, with a wheelbase of 3070mm. Just from these figures, one can sense that the interior space is quite "spacious," basically meeting the needs of most family and business scenarios. The Denza D9's body dimensions are 5250/1960/1900mm, with a wheelbase of 3110mm. Comparing the two, the Denza D9 outperforms the Trumpchi Xiangwang M8 in every aspect of body dimensions. When seven adults 1.8 meters tall are seated inside, its trunk can still accommodate 7 carry-on suitcases and backpacks, making both passenger space and loading capacity more than sufficient.

In terms of second-row configuration, both cars are equipped with zero-gravity seats and small tables. However, the Trumpchi Xiangwang M8's second row uses leather seats, features 24-point mechanical massage functionality, is also equipped with a graphene heat therapy neck pillow, and offers 270-degree surround heating. Starting from the shoulders and neck, one can truly feel soothing relaxation, as if a professional massage chair had been moved into the car. In this way, even on long trips, there is no sense of fatigue.

The third row is often a "pain point area" in family travel scenarios. Although the Trumpchi Xiangwang M8 has acceptable legroom, its seat cushion height is relatively low, and prolonged sitting can easily cause waist discomfort. By contrast, the Denza D9's third-row seat rear slide rails have been extended by 30mm, creating a more comfortable legroom environment, and it supports 4-way power adjustment, while also being equipped with seat ventilation and heating functions unique in its class, greatly improving third-row ride comfort.

In terms of interior, both cars focus on creating a sense of luxury and technology. The Trumpchi Xiangwang M8 uses a large amount of leather materials, wood-grain trim panels, and a suede headliner, paired with metal embroidery and matte chrome trim, giving rise to a luxurious atmosphere. Its 12.3-inch full LCD instrument cluster, 15.6-inch central control screen, 17.3-inch rear entertainment screen, and 5-inch armrest control screen make the interior full of technological feel. The Denza D9's interior also uses a large amount of genuine leather material paired with solid wood trim panels, fully showing class. However, in terms of interior technological feel, it is slightly inferior to the Trumpchi Xiangwang M8, equipped only with a 10.25-inch LCD instrument cluster and a 15.6-inch central control screen, and the rear entertainment screen still requires additional optional installation.

It is worth mentioning that the Trumpchi Xiangwang M8 is equipped with Huawei's "full suite," including the Huawei HarmonyOS cockpit and the Qiankun ADS 3.0 advanced driving assistance system. The HarmonyOS cockpit can achieve seamless connection among mobile phones, tablets, home devices, and the vehicle system, creating an extremely strong technological atmosphere; meanwhile, with the collaborative support of a 192-line lidar, 12 ultrasonic radars, and 11 high-definition cameras, Huawei Qiankun ADS 3.0 is sufficient to realize full-scenario intelligent driving functions.

The Denza D9 is also equipped with an advanced intelligent driving assistance system, with the "God's Eye" high-level intelligent driving system standard across the entire lineup, carrying as many as 32 high-precision sensors and providing a comprehensive intelligent driving experience.

In terms of powertrain configuration, the Trumpchi Xiangwang M8 is equipped with a 2.0T plug-in hybrid system, in which the engine's maximum power reaches 140kW and the electric motor's total power is 160kW, delivering smooth and abundant power output. At the same time, the car is equipped with a 44.5kWh CATL battery pack, with a CLTC pure electric range of 248km and a combined range of over 1200km with a full tank and full charge, so there is no need to worry about range even on long trips. In addition, its fuel consumption at the minimum state of charge is 6.15L/100km, and fast charging from 30% to 80% takes only 15 minutes, giving it a significant charging speed advantage among models in the same class.

The Denza D9 is equipped with BYD's fifth-generation DM technology and carries a 1.5Ti high-efficiency engine dedicated to plug-in hybrids. The engine's peak power reaches 115kW and works with an electric motor with a total power of 200kW; its pure electric driving range under CLTC standards can reach 200km, and its combined range with a full tank and full charge reaches 11100km, while fuel consumption under state of charge is 6.65L/100km. By comparison, the Trumpchi Xiangwang M8 surpasses the Denza D9 in power, range, and fuel consumption.

Competition in the current MPV market is extremely fierce. Although the Denza D9 has outstanding strength, the Trumpchi M8, as a rising star, is also quite competitive, and is even superior to the Denza D9 in intelligent level and power and range. As for whether it can break through the fierce competition and change the existing market landscape, we still need to wait for market reaction after its launch.
