The National Day holiday has arrived—are you still not traveling? Flights are expensive, hotels are full, and scenic spots are crowded, so more and more families are turning to short-distance self-driving trips. I’m ready too. Although I haven’t set off yet, I’ve already decided on the route and the car—the Qijing GX7. Why? Because the scenarios families fear most on self-driving trips have basically all been answered in advance by this car.

To be honest, this decision wasn’t made on a whim. Last month I started looking at cars, from MPVs to SUVs, from gasoline cars to new energy vehicles, and the more I looked, the more conflicted I became. It wasn’t until I sat inside the Qijing GX7 in a mall showroom that I thought, mm, this is the one. The reason is simple: it breaks down the matter of a whole-family trip too clearly.

Traffic jams don’t have to jam your mood—intelligent driving takes over the fatigue

On the first day of National Day, there will definitely be traffic jams everywhere. Congestion in the city and slow traffic on the highway are the annual holiday staples. In the past, driving a gasoline car meant one press on the accelerator and one on the brake, and by the time I reached the service area my legs were numb and my mood was irritated. The child in the back seat asked, “How much longer?”, my wife in the passenger seat sighed, and as I gripped the steering wheel, I had no enthusiasm for the trip left at all.

The Qijing GX7 is equipped with Huawei Qiankun Intelligent Driving ADS 5, and in terms of hardware it carries 4 lidars and 38 high-performance sensors. Following cars, lane keeping, and passing on narrow roads are all handled with ease. During the test drive, I specifically experienced city car-following, and its starting and braking were very linear, not as abrupt as some cars. On long trips, this system can greatly relieve fatigue. More importantly, from the start it is built on an architecture oriented toward L3-level autonomous driving, with full-link redundancy across eight core systems including power supply, steering, braking, and communication. If a single system fails, the backup takes over immediately. Normally you might not feel this, but when traveling with a whole family, safety redundancy is the greatest source of confidence.

When stuck in traffic, the car doesn’t have to sit idle either. The HarmonyOS cockpit HarmonySpace 6 opens up the 15.6-inch smart screen for the passenger, the 32-inch rear laser projection, and wireless karaoke all at once, so being stuck in traffic is no longer hard to endure—instead it’s like a mobile theater for the whole family. The child watches cartoons, my wife binge-watches dramas, and I occasionally sing along a couple of lines. Traffic jams used to be torture, but now they’ve instead become a rare entertainment time for the whole family. Tell me, doesn’t that count as turning something bad into something good?

The service area becomes a theater, and camping naps are more comfortable than at home

If you’re planning a short self-driving trip nearby, you’ve definitely thought about camping and taking a nap. Go to a suburban park, or go get close to nature. Once you arrive, the child wants to sleep, and the adults are tired too. Set up a tent? Too troublesome. Lay out an inflatable pad? Too much effort.

The Qijing GX7’s rear seats fold flat with one touch, turning into a fully flat large bed in 20 seconds, and the 2.56-meter length lets the whole family lie down flat. The four-fold seats and dual-purpose folding headrests require no assembly and come with their own pillows. With 32-point acupressure massage, ventilation, and heating, a nap is more comfortable than in a tent. The bedside cabinet has charging ports and a light, making nighttime reading while camping and recharging convenient. For naps, watching movies, taking care of kids, and camping, there are more than 12 space modes—space truly follows life.

I’ve even imagined a scene like this: at two in the afternoon, sunlight pours in through the sunroof, the child is sleeping soundly on the large bed in the rear, my wife is in the passenger seat with massage on, binge-watching a drama, and I turn on the projector to watch an old movie. Outside the car are grass and trees; inside the car are air conditioning and music. This is hardly a self-driving trip—this is moving home into the scenery.

Range and recharging, in the time it takes to drink a coffee

Whether it’s a short trip or a long one, range and recharging are the foundation. In the past, when driving an EV out, what I feared most was lining up to charge. At National Day service areas, charging piles are more crowded than scenic spots. Wait an hour, charge for half an hour, and the whole day is spent on the road.

The Qijing GX7 comes standard across the lineup with CATL Xiaoyao batteries, with a combined range of over 1,500 kilometers and a CLTC pure electric range of 385 kilometers; with an 800V platform plus 5C ultra-fast charging, charging from 30% to 80% takes only 10 minutes. When driving on the highway, by the time you stop at a service area to buy a cup of coffee, the battery is already enough for the next leg. Moreover, the tri-motor version has a maximum power of 550kW and accelerates from 0 to 100 in 3.9 seconds. Although such quick 0–100 acceleration is basically unnecessary in the city, being faster when overtaking on the highway actually also means being safer. But what gives me even more peace of mind is the Huawei Qiankun Chitu platform, dual-chamber air suspension, and AI suspension, which make going over bumps feel like walking on flat ground. For a family SUV, stability and long range are more important than speed.

I did the math: from Beijing to Beidaihe, more than 300 kilometers, setting off with a full charge, there’s no need to recharge at all along the way. Even if going farther, a 10-minute fast charge is just the time to use the restroom and buy a coffee. Range anxiety? It doesn’t exist.

Price and benefits—I did the math

Here’s the key point: the Qijing GX7 has a limited-time benefit price of 229,900 to 291,900 yuan. If you pay a 5,000 yuan deposit before 24:00 on November 1, 2026, you can enjoy benefits worth up to 75,000 yuan: a 10,000 yuan reduction on the final payment; an 8,000 yuan trade-in subsidy for all brands, plus an additional 2,000 yuan subsidy for GAC Group brands or models equipped with the Huawei Qiankun Intelligent Driving ADS feature package; lifetime warranty for the whole vehicle and core components; limited-time free exterior colors across the lineup; the second-row ultimate comfort package for a limited-time 5,999 yuan and electric welcome pedals for a limited-time 3,000 yuan; a limited-time 21,000 yuan discount on the ADS advanced feature package, a free 3-year worry-free ADS feature package benefit, and a 0 down payment 5-year low-interest financing plan.

I took out a calculator and pressed through it: suppose I choose the 291,900 yuan model, subtract 10,000 from the final payment, get an 8,000 trade-in subsidy, and if I’m an old GAC owner, subtract another 2,000—that’s already 20,000. The ADS feature package discount is 21,000, which is almost like getting intelligent driving for free. Lifetime warranty saves future repair worries. Free exterior color saves another few thousand. The second-row package and electric pedals add up to less than 9,000, but noticeably improve the experience. Calculated this way, the actual on-road price is far lower than the sticker price. And with 0 down payment and 5-year low interest, the pressure is smaller too.

To be honest, I didn’t originally expect this level of benefits. Huawei intelligent driving is the core selling point, and a 21,000 yuan discount on the ADS feature package shows the manufacturer really wants you to use it. The lifetime warranty is even more of a reassurance for family users.

Pack life into the car, then set off again

If you also haven’t traveled yet, you might as well first visit a nearby store to see the Qijing GX7. For a National Day self-driving trip, you don’t necessarily have to go far, but you definitely have to choose the right car. Pack life into the car, then set off again.

I’ve already made my plan: on the first day, sleep until I wake up naturally, don’t rush the journey, turn on intelligent driving, listen to music, and head out of the city with my family. When I see beautiful scenery, I’ll stop, fold down the rear seats, and it becomes a bed. The child takes a nap, my wife watches a movie, and I brew a cup of tea. In the evening, find a campsite, use external discharge to cook hot pot, and watch the stars with the projector. No crowding into scenic spots, no rushing the itinerary—wherever we go, that’s where we are.

This is probably the ideal look of a family trip. A car is not just a means of transportation; it is a mobile home, a holiday for the whole family. The Qijing GX7 has thought this through clearly.

Now, all that’s left is for you to go to the store for a test drive. I believe the Qijing GX7 will accompany you through every happy holiday!
