hybrid technology, with its flexible "fuel and electric" characteristics, has become the choice of more and more consumers. In the 100,000-yuan-class plug-in hybrid family sedan market, Chery Fengyun A8L and BYD Qin L DM-i can be said to be two benchmark models. The two models form a duel of two giants with differentiated positioning as the "technology faction" and the "economy faction." Today we will compare them to see which one is more suitable for you. The two model versions participating in this PK are: Fengyun A8L and Qin L DM-i.
Fast charging and long range: the pinnacle duel of hybrid technology
The maximum charging power of Fengyun A8L can reach 41kW, and a 30-80% fast charge takes only 19 minutes. Its 18.67kWh battery pack achieves a CLTC pure electric range of 145km. Combined with Chery's self-developed Kunpeng Super Hybrid C-DM 5.0 system, the measured comprehensive range exceeds 2300km. Looking at Qin L DM-i, its charging power is 23kW, 30-80% charging takes 25 minutes, its 15.87 battery pack has a CLTC pure electric range of 128km, and its comprehensive range is 2100km. It is not difficult to see that whether in range or charging speed, Fengyun A8L is superior. It is worth mentioning that on December 8, 2024, Fengyun A8L set a Guinness World Record for the longest distance driven on one tank of fuel by a plug-in hybrid sedan, and in August 2025, in a 2025 new energy extreme range challenge held on a certain platform, it achieved first place in energy consumption in the hybrid group.
Safety architecture reconstruction: from passive protection to active warning
The body structure of Fengyun A8L uses 80% high-strength steel and 20.6% hot-formed steel, and the coverage rate of aluminum alloy anti-collision beams reaches 78%, a significant improvement over Qin L DM-i's 70.8% high-strength steel ratio and steel anti-collision beams (76.8% coverage). Particularly noteworthy is that Qin L DM-i is equipped with 6 airbags, while Fengyun A8L has 10 airbags, including knee airbags and second-row side airbags. The side curtain airbag deployment length reaches 1983.7mm, with pressure retention time of more than 6 seconds, far exceeding industry standards.
In terms of battery safety, the Guardian battery system carried by Fengyun A8L can achieve 2-millisecond-level high-voltage power-off response, much faster than Qin L DM-i's ordinary power-off system.
Comfort experience upgraded: all-round evolution from quietness to health
Fengyun A8L's ENC active noise reduction system, combined with double-layer laminated glass, controls interior noise at 38dB (60km/h), a significant improvement over Qin L DM-i's 45dB. Its airtightness index reaches 90scfm, better than the Mercedes-Benz GLC's 95scfm. When Fengyun A8L is cruising at a high speed of 120km/h, in-car voice clarity remains above 75 points, while Qin L DM-i drops to 65 points.
The Fengyun A8L driver's seat with 10-way power adjustment uses a 9-layer composite structure, among which the 10mm memory foam layer provides excellent support. Actual measurements show that after 4 hours of continuous driving, the driver's lumbar fatigue index in Fengyun A8L is 30% lower than that in Qin L DM-i. The 2790mm wheelbase brings 901mm of rear legroom, and together with the panoramic sunroof, creates a sense of space beyond its class.
Fengyun A8L is equipped with a 15.6-inch 2.5K central control screen and a built-in 8155 chip, achieving a smooth experience with 2-second startup and execution of 20 commands within 30 seconds. The infotainment system supports three major phone connectivity protocols: Carplay, HUAWEI HiCar, and Carlink, while Qin L DM-i does not support Carplay. The combination of Fengyun A8L's 256-color ambient lighting and fragrance system creates an even more immersive cabin experience.
Fengyun A8L is equipped with the C-PURE clean cube system, integrating AQS air quality monitoring, a negative ion generator, and a self-cleaning function. Formaldehyde content is controlled below 0.01mg/m³, reaching maternal and infant-level environmental protection standards. The application of large-area soft wrapping and 3D Mesh materials makes the interior touch comparable to luxury brands.
Performance: comprehensive transcendence from power to handling
Fengyun A8L's 1.5T engine outputs a maximum power of 115kW and a peak torque of 220N·m, much stronger than Qin L DM-i's 74kW/126N·m. In the 0-100km/h acceleration test, Fengyun A8L measured 7.2 seconds, while Qin L DM-i was 7.5 seconds.
The 235 wide tires and low-profile design keep Fengyun A8L's cornering roll at 4.2°, a 28% improvement over Qin L DM-i's 5.8°. The aluminum alloy steering knuckles and steadily tuned suspension system achieved an excellent result of 78km/h in the moose test, while Qin L DM-i was 72km/h. During continuous cornering, Fengyun A8L provides a more stable handling experience.
Conclusion: Qin L DM-i occupies a place in the entry-level market by virtue of its cost-effectiveness, but Fengyun A8L, through technological innovation, has more advantages in the four dimensions of "range-safety-comfort-performance," making it the optimal solution for multiple scenarios such as intercity commuting, family travel, and business reception.
