BYD's Dahan has finally launched. As a large all-electric sedan, its price starts directly at 235,900 yuan, which is simply unbelievable. You should know that large luxury sedans led by the 7 Series, A8, and S-Class often cost a million yuan or more. After all, many car brands treat them as flagship sedans to elevate their brand image. But now BYD has pushed the Dahan's price down to more than 200,000 yuan, undoubtedly flipping the table in the large-car market!
Of course, the Dahan affects more than just the large-car market; it has thrown almost the entire 200,000-plus yuan car market into disarray. The first to be affected are its own products, such as the Seal 08, Han L, Denza Z9, and so on. Even if you like the Seal 08, others will say, "You might as well buy the Dahan instead of it." For a multiple-choice question like this, even a fool would choose with their eyes closed. From this, it is clear that even BYD's own products have been disrupted, so can other brands remain stable?
The Dahan's length, width, and height are 5256x1999x1510 mm respectively, with a wheelbase of 3130 mm, and its body dimensions directly target the 78S. In terms of exterior design, the best-looking part is still the front fascia. The Dragon Face aesthetic design is grand and imposing, and its presence is in no way inferior to the 78S. In particular, its low-slung front end creates a strong sense of pressure. Personally, I think the Dahan's front fascia not only has more Chinese characteristics but is also full of tension, completely surpassing the Zunjie S800.
The styling of the body sides and rear is a bit overdone. Perhaps the designers wanted to make it into a sporty sedan! It always feels insufficiently coordinated. The fastback slope is too aggressive and directly covers the trunk lid. Compare it with the 78S and you will know that for this kind of executive-class carriage, what matters is having a proper front and rear, so that it appears more solemn on important occasions. The Dahan's rear design, however, seems a bit strong at the front and weak at the back.
Stepping inside, the Dahan's interior once again overturns expectations. It is hard to imagine that this is actually the interior of a car costing more than 200,000 yuan. If Mercedes-Benz's interior is the pinnacle, then the Dahan's interior absolutely offers extremely high value for money. In addition, in terms of equipment, whatever a one-million-yuan 78S cannot give you, the Dahan satisfies you completely. In particular, the rear passenger space also feels more spacious than that of traditional sedans. The fastback design can greatly increase the rear seatback angle. For example, the NIO ET9 and Zunjie S800 are both designed this way, but their exterior really does not hold up to repeated viewing.
The three-electric system is BYD's strength. The Dahan is equipped with a 102.3 kWh second-generation blade battery, with a CLTC all-electric range of 1008 kilometers. Recently, some people tested its high-speed range performance and found it inferior to the Xiaomi SU7, and there is nothing worth arguing about in that. What it provides is originally a CLTC range figure, which has no reference value. If you take it seriously, you lose.
The Dahan is equipped with dual-chamber air suspension and rear-wheel steering. For a domestic new energy vehicle costing more than 200,000 yuan, this is nothing special. However, as a large all-electric sedan, its weight is only 2.26 tons, and its lightweighting is excellently executed. As for safety, BYD has not announced the proportion of hot-formed steel in its body-in-white, only that the combined usage rate of high-strength steel and aluminum alloy exceeds 87%, and that 11 core collision protection points in the passenger compartment use 2000 MPa hot-formed steel. Judging from the data alone, its body structure materials still fall short of the Xiaomi SU7.
Overall, BYD's launch of the Dahan in fact starts a new round of involution in the auto market. Because the Dahan's value for money is already very high, it will certainly seize a lot of the 200,000 to 300,000 yuan segment, and by then other brands will definitely follow suit. In particular, brands like Geely, Chery, Leapmotor, and so on are fully capable of going toe-to-toe with BYD. In this way, BYD will set off another round of price wars. With the end of the year approaching, it is time to sharpen the knives.
