At the recent Hong Kong Auto Expo, Chery officially showcased the flagship sedan of its Fengyun series—the Fengyun A9L. This plug-in hybrid mid-to-large sedan, built on the all-new E0X platform, had actually already made an appearance at the Shanghai Auto Show earlier. Now its name has been confirmed, with pre-sales scheduled to open on June 25 and an official market launch in early July. The company says blind orders have exceeded 53,000 units within 35 days.

The Fengyun A9L has a clear positioning—it targets the mid-to-large plug-in hybrid sedan market. Its body dimensions are substantial, measuring 5018/1968/1500mm in length, width, and height respectively, with a wheelbase of 3000mm. This means interior space, especially rear-seat roominess, will be a fundamental advantage. It offers four-seat and five-seat versions and is equipped with an onboard refrigerator, which is a practical bonus in summer or for long-distance travel.

The Fengyun A9L is powered by Chery's latest Kunpeng Super Hybrid CDM 6.0 system, consisting of a 1.5T engine and an electric motor. The key figure is its approximately 33.7 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery, which according to MIIT information can provide either 151 km or 193 km of pure electric range. This electric-only range is basically sufficient for daily urban commuting—it can be driven as an EV to reduce running costs, while the hybrid setup also eliminates range anxiety for long trips, striking a balance between practicality and convenience.

On the equipment front, the lidar on the roof indicates it carries the Falcon 700 driver assistance system, with the hardware prepared for advanced driver assistance, though real-world performance remains to be verified after launch. Inside, the 15.6-inch floating central control screen is the visual focal point, paired with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8255 chip and the Lingxi Smart Cabin 2.0 system, and incorporating AI large models aimed at enhancing the interaction experience. The two-spoke flat-bottom steering wheel and column shifter design add a modern touch. For interior materials, the combination of Nappa leather, natural wood grain trim, and suede conveys a premium ambiance. Exterior styling continues the family design language—closed front fascia, full-width daytime running lights, fastback profile, 20-inch wheels with red calipers, semi-hidden door handles, and full-width taillights with an electric spoiler—giving it an overall youthful and sporty character.

Currently, competition in the domestic flagship sedan market is exceptionally fierce, so referencing the pricing range of current segment competitors, the Fengyun A9L's final pricing strategy will be particularly important. Chery demonstrated a rather aggressive pricing strategy with the Fengyun A8, and if the Fengyun A9L can also show sufficient sincerity on price, with its space, pure electric range, smart hardware configuration, and design, it could indeed become a choice worth serious consideration in this highly competitive segment.

Overall, the Fengyun A9L, as Chery's spearhead product for attacking the mid-to-high-end new energy sedan market, demonstrates solid competitiveness in core specifications and feature content—especially for users who value space, want longer pure electric range to cover daily commuting, and are unwilling to give up the convenience of fuel. Of course, whether the car is ultimately worth buying may well hinge on the official pricing announced in July.
